Empowerment Symposium

The “Empowerment Symposium” is an annual program hosted by MCDHH to provide a variety of information useful for the empowerment of persons with hearing loss which was established annually since 1997, the purpose of the “Empowerment Symposium” is to empower deaf and hard of hearing people. That objective is pursued by having guest speakers’ present information concerning a variety of topics of possible use to people with hearing loss.

MCDHH Advocacy Program

Visor Card

Missouri Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (MCDHH) is collaborating with law enforcement agency in Missouri and has received the endorsement of the Missouri Sheriff’s Association to produce Visor Communication Cards to increase better understanding and improve communication between Police Officers and the Deaf and Hard of hearing people in Missouri. MCDHH is now releasing the Visor Communication Cards for the Deaf, Oral Deaf and Hard of Hearing. This card can be kept in vehicles and shown to Police officers whenever a Deaf or Hard of Hearing Missourian is stopped on the road. If you would like a Visor Card,   please fill out the form here. Also, please remember, YOU MUST fill out a  Census of Persons with Hearing Loss form available. You may send both forms to us by email or regular snail mail on the address provided on the forms. Deaf Awareness Training for Law Enforcement

Missouri Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing designed this training to provide general information and increased awareness about Deaf and Hard of Hearing people that will lead to improved communication with law enforcement officers. Law enforcement officers will be able to apply basic strategies for communicating effectively with Deaf and Hard of Hearing people in both emergency and non-emergency situations.

Deaf Awareness Training for Healthcare Professional

Missouri Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing designed this training to provide general information and increased awareness about Deaf and Hard of Hearing people that will lead to improved communication with healthcare profession including physicians, physician assistants, registered nurses, veterinarians, veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, dentists, midwives, radiographers, pharmacists, physiotherapists, optometrists, operating department practitioners and others. They will be able to apply basic strategies for communicating effectively with Deaf and Hard of Hearing people in both emergency and non-emergency situations.
